Chiusa and its surroundings offer a lot of interesting day trip-destinations. The narrow streets of the town of Chiusa enchanted even then the artist Albrecht Dürer during his trip to Italy. The Sabiona Monastery is one of the oldest pilgrimage places and a popular tourist destination in Klausen. It can be reached along the beautiful walk from the medieval centre of Chiusa.

The idyllic Val di Funes/Villnöss valley in the Dolomites, UNESCO World Heritage, with the famous Odle/Geisler massif is the perfect hiking area. Countless well-maintained hiking trails, suitable for families, children, elderly and handicapped people are perfect to spend a beautiful day in the unspoilt nature of the Puez-Odle Nature Park.

Just as inviting is the Val Gardena/Gröden. A lot of perfectly prepared ski slopes in winter are guaranteed. Whereas in summer you can hike on mountain pastures, surrounded by a wonderful alpine landscape. Val Gardena is also famous for the art of wood carving and you may learn more about this ancient tradition from many passionate artists.

As an absolute highlight, we recommend a trip to Bolzano/Bozen with a visit to the South Tyrolean Museum of Archaeology. Ötzi - the iceman, the wold’s most famous glacier mummy, has been preserved in perfect condition and is permanently exhibited at the Museum

The Valle Isarco is the territory where in autumn we celebrate the "törggelen" tradition. Numerous farm taverns open their traditional "Stuben" where to taste home-made products and delicacies, new wine and roasted chestnuts.

Discover the South Tyrolean Christmas markets
Skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoe hiking, ice skating, tobogganing and hiking through the snowy winter landscape are wonderful winter activities, and everyone will be satisfied. Ski schools and baby parks, as well as Après-Ski huts for adults complete the offer. Alto Adige/Südtirol offers endless winter sports possibilities surrounded by a magnificent landscape: the perfect place to spend your free time with friends or family.

Skiing and Snowboarding
Skiing and snowboarding in the Valle Isarco/Eisacktal is easy and lots of fun, and the shuttle service “Ski safari” takes you every day to a different ski resort. With ChiusaCard you use the shuttle service for free. Discover every day a new ski and hiking area, and enjoy a wonderful day on the ski runs or simply walk across the lovely winter nature.

Some of the most beautiful ski resort are located right next to Chiusa, such as Plose (38 km), Alpe di Siusi/Seiser Alm (17 km) and Val Gardena/Gröden (27.5 km).

Villandro/Villanders (15 km) and Val di Funes/Villnöss (21 km) are both perfect winter sports areas, whether you prefer hiking across the winter landscape, with snowshoes, or your simply like to have fun with the toboggan. A large number of well-prepared hiking trails lead to lovely alpine huts, which serve traditional home-made dishes and offer fantastic views over the alpine landscape.

With ChiusaCard you have the opportunity to use the shuttle service “Ski Safari” free of charge, and it will bring you every day to different hiking area. Once a week we offer guided hikes in company of the hotel manager. Otherwise you can take part in guided walks, organized by the Tourism Board. However, if you do not have snowshoes, there is a snowshoe rental available at our hotel (subject to charges).

Cross-country skiing
Villandro/Villanders is the ideal place to practice cross-country skiing. The small village is only 15 km away from our hotel, and you are allowed to use the public transportation service to get there for free.

Christmas markets
It feels like time has stopped in the narrow alleys of the historic town of Chiusa/Klausen. Experience with us the Medieval Christmas in the Advent season. Listen to the Christmas carols, drink a cup of traditional mulled wine or eat Christmas cookies, and get involved by juggler and fire-eaters. In the medieval camp, women are dressed in woollen clothes sitting around the open fire place, while bearded knights in their coats of chain mail ride quietly through the streets.
