We would have bet that not many riders will come up to the Cash4Tricks event at Superpark Planai last Sunday. But this is exactly the reason why the many shredders who showed up are better gamblers than us. The pow god was generous with the Schladming-Planai ski area and turned the Superpark into a Powderpark. Nevertheless, 25-30 motivated shred heads put the snowboard or twintips under their feet, came to the park and shoved bills over bills into their pockets during the hike session at Superpark Planai.

First obstacle: Flat Tube

Solid 15cm of freshies couldn’t discourage anyone to spend a rad day in the park. And there was a good reason: Freestyle experts Luggi Brucic, Josh Absenger and Juraj Opalek made their way to the Superpark with pockets full of cash! After a short welcome and get-together, the riders kicked off the session. The first obstacle to master? A 5m Flat Tube – perfect for all levels. The first shredders were not only happy about bills for stomped tricks, but also about helpful hints from the experienced riders on the microphone. And the later the day, the higher the progression: 270s turned into 630s, slides turned into backslides and 50-50s into Boardslides. Those participants who made enough hard cash could treat themselves with free soft drinks, warm tea and hot dogs in the Chill Area.

Progression and challenges

Yet, the break was not too long, because the judges already found a new obstacle and had the goal to go home with empty pockets. On the massive 6m Jib Tank and the 3m Flat Box, all riders had again the chance to show their skills. Stomped tricks were once more rewarded with those red €5 Ski amadé bills and the first park rats collected so much cash that they almost had a hard time fitting it all in their pockets. Judge and freeskier Luggi Brucic also spiced up the session with little challenges like:

“The first rider who spins a 9 on the box receives double the cash!”

And just like that the shred day went on big time and the pockets of the judges became emptier and emptier.

Hike session and final cash flow

Nevertheless, we gotta cite DJ Khaled here: Another one! Why? Because one more obstacle was already getting prepared by shaper David Hvrinak. The 8m (Doneky In) Down Rail located right next to the Chill Area was announced as the feature for the final showdown. Listening to fine tunes from the speakers, the riders put down run after run again. Someone bailed? No problem, the judges always found motivating words and tips for the freestyle gamblers. So people unstrapped over and over, took a few big steps back to the obstacle and showed tricks and even more tricks. Effectively, the hike session definitely showed some serious results, because the later the day, the steezier the tricks. And we got a fine proof: The pics of the day!

Big ups and a warm thank you to all motivated riders who came up to Superpark Planai on this snowy day. We had a blast and it looked like the participants were stoked too with all the hard-earned cash in their hands. It was a pleasure, keep it up guys, see you next time!
