The Church Liebfrauenkirche is the most important ecclesiastical monument of Germany, from the time of the transition between Romanesque and Gothic right after the Naumburg Cathedral. Built between 1170 and 1330, the three-aisled basilica possesses several valuable facilities such as the tombs of the Counts of Schwarzburg, a late Gothic winged altar (1498), the linden wood carving of "Maria and her baby" (around 1415) and significant stained glass windows.

Unusual is not only the location of this sacred treasure on the outskirts of Arnstadt, but also the juxtaposition of a Romanesque nave and a Gothic choir. The High Gothic hall choir of the Church built in 1270 is one of the most beautiful and important choirs of the middle German High Gothic.
