Walk and breathe where Greek philosophers and doctors once did, look where the Gods looked, step by step, among ancient Greek-Roman and medieval ruins, immersed in the Mediterranean nature of the Elea - Velia Archaeological Park. Here begins the journey, from what was one of the most important city-states of Magna Graecia, located at the center of ancient trade routes between Greece and Etruria. Cradle of philosophy and medicine, homeland of Parmenides and Zeno, founders of the Eleatic School that gave rise to Western thought. From here continue on the pleasant route along the banks of the great Alento river, up to its mouth which in the past saw the entering and leaving of navigators' and merchants' boats.
Departure from Marina di Ascea, entrance to the Archaeological Park and exit from the Park through the sacred ridge area, descent towards the mouth of the Alento River - short round trip to the mouth, crossing to the other side along the road bridge, continue towards Casalvelino Marina, passing the church of San Matteo at Duoflumina, proceeding to Dominella beach and then climbing back to the main road via a nature trail, ascent towards Casalvelino main town, where the first stage ends.
