Worth seeing:
Pöggstall Castle – in 2017 it was the venue for the Lower Austrian Provincial Exhibition “Everything That’s Legal” – houses a museum on legal history including the only “original” torture chamber and a documentation about the life and work of the artist Franz Traunfellner. Equally fascinating is the special exhibition “Pöggstall Castle – between region and imperial court” in the barbican, which tells about the eventful restoration, significant finds, and astonishing stories about the castle owners. A 3D animation clearly shows how the bergfried (tower) and later castle grew from its original structure to its current form.
In addition to Pöggstall Castle with its barbican (rondel), also worth seeing are the very old St. Anna Church in the field (1140), the parish church Pöggstall, and the pilgrimage church in Neukirchen (1118) at Ostrong, which is older as a pilgrimage church than Maria Taferl.
Leisure tips:
4 tennis courts, beach volleyball court, football pitch, a covered multisport facility, playgrounds, campsite, mountain bike and cycling routes, fishing and riding opportunities, Laas horse farm, Texas Longhorn Austria, Hotglass Atelier Faffelberger, Herbal Farm Schrammel, brand painting Josef Mitmasser.
From the main square you walk through Badgasse, further to the Weitenbach bridge and Rogendorfer Straße to the town sign. Shortly after, turn left, cross the Weitenbach on the footbridge, (here you circle the gothic church St. Anna) follow it on a forest and meadow path to the biological sewage treatment plant (lowest point 420 m). From the federal road, a sidewalk leads back to the main square.
