Enjoy the picturesque scenery around the Thurweg and learn more about the importance of local hydropower plants for the energy supply of our valley in the past, present, and future on the Hydropower Educational Trail.
Along the route between the Trempel and Ebnat-Kappel hydropower plants, ten information boards provide background on the interaction between hydropower use and the Thur ecosystem.
The start and end points can be easily reached on foot from Ebnat-Kappel train station (approx. 10 min) or Krummenau (approx. 2 min).

Light daypack (approx. 15 liters) with rain cover, comfortable footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, sun and rain protection, possibly provisions and drinking water, first aid kit, pocket knife, mobile phone, possibly headlamp
The route is clearly signposted.
- From the Zurich metropolitan area and Central Switzerland:
On the A3 at Reichenburg towards Rapperswil, then over the Ricken Pass and in Wattwil follow the main road to Krummenau.
- From Eastern Switzerland:
From St. Gallen, drive on the A1 to Wil, take the Toggenburg exit. Follow the main road to Krummenau.
- From the southern German region:
Via Bregenz and St. Margrethen on the A13 to Haag and take the exit towards Toggenburg/Wildhaus. Or via Konstanz to Wil, then take the Toggenburg exit and follow the main road to Krummenau.
Take the train to Krummenau train station.
