The route connects the center of Cesana Torinese with the Green Marble quarries (Menconi Quarries) featuring a first very gentle and pleasant part along the Ripa stream through a mixed forest of conifers and broadleaves, and a very steep second part in a lush forest mainly of larches; the final stretch is characterized by the presence of the quarries, typical rocks and various artifacts related to the historic mining activity now abandoned. There are also beautiful views of valleys and mountains.
Support and technical description by Barbara Demonte - Environmental hiking guide.
The route starts in front of the Tourist Office of Cesana (Piazza Vittorio Amedeo, 3) at about 1350 meters above sea level. Immediately you cross the Ripa on the flowered bridge which gives access to the central core of the village; just after the bridge turn left onto Via XXIV Maggio and follow it completely until the asphalt gives way to a wide dirt track that always runs along the river, and shortly becomes a path in the middle of the forest. In a clearing at 1390 meters, after about 1.8 km there is a three-way junction: leave the straight path along the Ripa, ignore the one that goes back towards Cesana, and take the path that climbs to the Green Marble quarries on the right at a large wooden sign with various indications; the path immediately becomes steep in the thick forest, and after crossing a stream it intersects at 1555 meters the dirt road coming from Bousson, which is taken uphill to the right. After a couple of switchbacks, at 1660 meters is the entrance tunnel to the underground quarry, at the next switchback an exceptional panoramic spot with a small table, and finally the open-air quarry at 1720 meters where path n°2 ends.
