Welcome to Ettlingen!

Welcome to the historic old town of Ettlingen, with its medieval alleyways and a lively pedestrian zone that invites you to stroll, browse and shop. Welcome to the six districts, some of which are situated as hilltop neighbourhoods on the first Black Forest mountains or between typical orchards that extend into the Rhine plain.

The uniqueness and identity of historic Ettlingen, on the Alb and at the foot of the Black Forest, is put ‘in the right light’ by our lighting concept.

2000 years of history (the Romans already had a settlement here on the Alb), 800 years of town charter and the reconstruction around 1700 under Margravine Sibylla Augusta characterise the townscape of Ettlingen. Go on a journey of discovery on the historical tour or take part in our varied guided tour programme to experience our historic old town. The town of Ettlingen maintains numerous fountains in the town centre and its districts. There are also several historic fountains in the town centre that are well worth seeing. Ettlingen is located in the heart of Baden and is the starting point for wonderful walks, hikes and cycle tours into the Alb Valley and the Northern Black Forest or for excursions to nearby Alsace. The range of leisure and sporting activities on offer leaves nothing to be desired: Nordic walking, mountain biking, horse riding and hiking, tennis and golf, swimming in the Albgaubad, the Buchtzig bathing lake or the Waldbad - plenty of opportunities to relax and unwind. Ettlingen is also a portal municipality in Germany's largest nature park, the Black Forest Centre/North Nature Park.

Nationally renowned events such as the castle festival are complemented by a wide range of special events in the fields of music and dance, theatre, cabaret and exhibitions.The wide range of cultural events organised by associations and, of course, the many public festivals invite visitors to Ettlingen all year round.And the museums in the castle: here you can learn about Ettlingen's history or the important representatives of Baden art in the 20th century. Another special tip: the historic steam train rides through the Alb valley - they have a long tradition in Ettlingen and take place regularly every summer.

Ettlingen also has a long tradition of varied gastronomy - from rustic beer pubs to gourmet restaurants with French-Mediterranean delicacies.
