Hinterhornbach – the romantic mountain village at the foot of the Hochvogel

Hinterhornbach is situated at an altitude of 1,101 metres at the foot of the Hochvogel and is the only inhabited side valley on the left-hand side of the Lech Valley. This idyllic retreat captivates visitors with its unspoilt nature, impressive mountain scenery and peaceful atmosphere – as the road ends right in the village.

Hinterhornbach was first mentioned in historical records in the 13th century. In the past, smugglers used the mountain trails to cross the border unnoticed. Today, these historic routes have become well-maintained and signposted hiking trails leading through the spectacular landscape of the Hornbach Range and the Allgäu Alps.

From leisurely walks to challenging summit hikes, Hinterhornbach is a paradise for nature lovers and mountain enthusiasts. With a little luck, you may even spot chamois or Alpine ibex along the way. Popular tours include the ascent of the Hochvogel and hikes to the Petersbergalm, which can also be reached by mountain bike.

In winter, Hinterhornbach is the perfect place to enjoy the snowy mountain landscape. Extensive cross-country ski trails and winter hiking paths offer ideal conditions for a relaxing winter holiday.
