Welcome to our mountain and fairy-tale town of Sontra!

Sontra is a charming small town with its 7,438 inhabitants (main residence, as of 1 January 2024) and a total of 14 districts (Berneburg, Blankenbach, Breitau, Diemerode, Heyerode, Hornel, Krauthausen, Mitterode, Stadthosbach, Thurnhosbach, Ulfen, Weißenborn, Wichmannshausen and Wölfterode) and despite everything, our town is one of the largest towns in the Werra-Meißner district.

Take some time to stroll through our historic old town around the market square and in the immediate vicinity of the town hall.

Visit one of the most beautiful leisure and adventure pools in our region or marvel at the many cultural and natural monuments and museums steeped in history. Nature lovers can also enjoy beautiful and well-signposted hiking and cycling routes in a very scenic part of North Hesse. The pump track facility offers the best conditions for beginners, advanced riders and competitive athletes.
