The Semmering Railway World Heritage Region combines impressive technological history with breathtaking natural scenery. It was the first mountain railway in Europe to be built in the middle of the 19th century and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The historic railway line winds its way over 41 kilometres through the picturesque landscape between Gloggnitz and Mürzzuschlag - over viaducts, through tunnels and past steep slopes and romantic forests.

Numerous hiking trails, such as the railway hiking trail, run along the route and offer spectacular views of the viaducts and the Semmering region.
